Research project: Symbiotic interactions challenged by salinity stress in aquatic transitional habitats
Currently, I am working on understanding how environmental stress, particularly changes in salinity, affects symbiotic relationships in estuarine ecosystems. These transitional habitats, where freshwater meets the sea, are highly dynamic and increasingly vulnerable to climate change and human activities. I focus on killifishes (Cyprinodontiformes), and their flatworm and copepod parasites, as models to explore how organisms cope with fluctuating abiotic conditions. I am examining the diversity present in estuarine habitats, the interactions of these organisms, and their reproductive success. This research contributes to a broader understanding of how environmental pressures shape biodiversity, host–parasite dynamics, and the resilience of estuarine communities in a changing world.
