Research project: Biological invasion of the non-indigenous blue crab Callinectes sapidus Rathbun, 1896 and its symbionts in a « One Health » context in Moroccan coastal environments: effects on native biodiversity, associated marine diseases, and risks for human health.
Currently, I am working on the invasive Atlantic blue crab Callinectes sapidus, which has recently established populations in several Moroccan coastal lagoons. My research aims to understand how this species was introduced to Morocco and to assess its ecological and parasitological impacts on native marine communities. Through field sampling, genetic analysis, and parasite screening, our team achieved the first detection of the parasitic dinoflagellate Hematodinium in blue crab populations from Morocco. These findings provide new insights into invasion dynamics and potential risks to local biodiversity.
