Research project: Human disturbance, biodiversity loss and the dynamics of helminth parasites
I focus on helminths (nematodes, cestodes, trematodes) of rodents, small mammals that often thrive in human habitats and can spread zoonotic diseases. My study area is the 80km-long MegaTransect in Yangambi, DRC, which covers a gradient of human disturbance and biodiversity loss from the primary forest core to the croplands and villages. By linking helminth infection and diversity data to the rodent- and environmental diversity, I aim to unravel potential dilution effects.
